Gregory G. Pinski

Gregory G. Pinski is a retired district judge for the Montana Eighth Judicial District Court. While a district judge, he sat by designation on the Montana Supreme Court.

Greg earned his bachelor of arts, magna cum laude, in political science and journalism from the University of North Dakota. Before attending law school, Greg worked at the White House in the Office of Presidential Scheduling for President Bill Clinton. In 1999, Greg graduated, with distinction, from the University of North Dakota School of Law, where he was an editor of the North Dakota Law Review. While a district judge, Greg also completed coursework at the National Judicial College, University of Nevada-Reno.

Upon graduation from law school, Greg entered private practice with Gray Plant Mooty in Minneapolis, while teaching at the University of Minnesota Law School. Greg returned to private practice in Montana before his election as district judge in 2013.

Greg is an elected member of the American Law Institute, the country’s most prestigious group of judges, lawyers, and legal scholars. Greg was also appointed by the Montana legislation as a national commissioner to the Uniform Law Commission, where he was influential drafter of the Model Veterans Treatment Court Act.

Greg is a tireless advocate for veterans and he is a frequent speaker and author on veteran legal issues. As a district judge, he founded a veterans treatment court and he serves as a consultant to Justice for Vets and the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. He has helped implement and train veterans treatment courts in 24 states. Greg is a civilian graduate of the United State Air Force Air War College National Security Forum and the United States Navy Leaders to Sea program.

Greg is an accomplished trial lawyer. Over his career, he has represented a broad range of clients, including individuals, small businesses, and major corporations. As lead counsel in complex civil cases, Greg practiced before 44 federal and state trial and appellate courts in 23 states. For 13 years, Greg served as national counsel to Shred-it International Inc., handling all aspects of its legal affairs, including labor and employment matters, trademark litigation, non-competition and trade secret cases, class action lawsuits, franchise matters, mergers and acquisitions, and other commercial business disputes.

As a retired district judge and experienced trial attorney, Greg Pinski is a sought-after mediator and arbitrator for other attorneys. Greg has an exceptional success rate resolving complex civil cases involving construction defects, business and shareholder disputes, real property, medical negligence, wrongful death, probate, product liability, premises liability, contract, and government liability issues.

Greg is active in many community organizations. He is an Eagle Scout who volunteers extensively for the Boy Scouts and Special Olympics. Greg was the first Montanan to receive the Boy Scouts of America National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award for his professional achievements. Greg’s wife, Amber, is a radiation oncology nurse, and they have two sons, James and Jack.
